In a clear attempt to shake up the cloud computing market Google senior vice president Urs Hölzle has announced at their Cloud platform event in San Francisco that Google will both simplify and reduce pricing for their cloud on demand and pay as you go services by 30 - 85%.
Google's belief is that cloud computing has not produced the expected cost reductions that were expected of it, and that on premise hardware costs in terms of processing power and storage have fallen faster than overall cloud costs.
Interestingly this is consistent with my blog article on cloud computing.
